One day landed from Moscow a tape by a guy named Vadim, who called himself Motor. On the tape, a normal audio cassette like we don't see much these days, just Motor/Vadim and a phone number. Not particulary something to get overtly enthusiastic about. But Audio.NL, then a label in it's founding stages, got enthusiastic the more and more they played. Motor's first 12", partly mastered from the original cassette, mind you, became slowly a big hit and dragged Audio.NL into the world of dance music, Kompakt and vinyl. Three years later, Audio.Nl has released 15 12"s, 1 7" and it's about time to release the first CD. We choose again for Motor. Just as we released the first 12" in 1998, Motor self-released a CD in Moscow, making 1000 copies in a jewel case with a silver sticker that said Motor - and nothing else. This is not a man of many words. Through the helpm of Audio.NL and Kompakt, the CD became a well-know but not always easy to get item (getting copies abroad was always a problem), so Audio.NL decided to do a repress of this CD with a somewhat better looking cover. Motor plays minimal techno. Partly these tracks could be found on the first three 12"s by Audio.NL. Vadim still uses the name Motor, but has entirely stopped doing techno music, and now composes sound collages of found radio sounds... life can be cruel. website: www.top-40.org |
